99 Things to do Before I Die – June 22, 2006

I’ve seen lists and lists and lists scattered around the internet about the 101 things people want to do before they die. Being a lover of lists I decided to publish mine in hopes that it will get me more motivated to do these things. Plus it was fun coming up with a list. Most of these things on here will be hard to do but hopefully with some money and some luck I can accomplish them.

These are not in any order, but I did try to categorize them a little. Also, some of the things I’ve already accomplished and those are italicized. Oh yah, and finally, I’m begging to be different and putting 99 things on there…maybe I should find the song “99 Luft Balloons” because I have 99 items on my list.

  1. Kevin, Lis and Lukas,
I just finished reading your blog (ok, I started it about 2 months ago and have read a little bit each day) and I know you\’ve heard this a thousand times already, but it is an amazing story and you, Kevin, are a beautiful writer.  I too have been touched closely by cancer when we lost my 7 year old cousin to it 8 years ago.  It\’s amazing that such an ugly disease can bring such beauty among our family and friends.  I am so happy to learn that Lis is continuing to do so well and you and her are still "going strong."  Lukas is an extremely lucky boy to have such loving, caring parents like you guys.  Your story is a testament to love and strength and courage and I\’ve forwarded it on to all my family and friends to read.
I admire your openess in the way you express your love for Lis too.  Sadly, men tend to get easily caught up in that "macho thing" and convince themselves that it\’s not ok to share feelings.  You are the example more of them need to follow!  I hope I\’m lucky enough to meet a man like you someday and share the amazing love you and Lis share! 🙂
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and I look forward to future blogs.  God bless, have a safe and fun vacation and GO BRAZIL!!!

  2. 10. Find Jesus – accomplished in 1998 – Awesome.  I think as long as you\’ve accomplished this one, you\’re set, bro!
I don\’t see "Visit Japan" on your list!  You better hurry up and get here before we go home.
    64. Write a script  – Do you think you could help me with Star Wars Episode VII?!
    83. Take Lis to a drive-in movie theater and make out – There\’s one in Everett, dude!
    87. Take a sword-fighting class or lightsaber class, thus learning the ways of the Force  – Represent!!
    90. Meet Boyz II Men  – As I was reading this, I was listening to my iPod and "Good Guy" was playing.  I was wondering to myself if "Go to a Boyz II Men Concert" was going to be listed.  Close enough.
    91. Visit Skywalker Ranch – Do I even have to say it?  Let\’s go!!
    99. Read the Bible – ALL OF IT! – What a HUGE goal but good for you if you can do it.  That\’s actually one that I\’ve been working on for the past year.  I only read about a chapter a day but I feel good when I see how much I\’ve read.

  3. I have been reading your list.  Sounds like alot of fun.  It is proof that you have hope and faith.  That is all you need to get through all of this.
October 20th of 2005, my mother was diagnosed with cancer.  You know it\’s the kind of cancer that is very rare.  Only happen\’s in a woman 1 out of 100,000 cases.  Then on December 3rd, 2005 my 3yr old nephew was diagnosed with lukemia.  SMACK,SMACK!!  What happened?  My life will never be the same.
Mom had 6 months if she was lucky, she passed away on March 17th.
Brock is amazing.  This little boy is just the strongest most amazing person I have ever seen.
My little niece asked grandma why she had to die.  She told her so that babies could be born.  I think that is strength also.
Your family is special.  In all of your list I didn\’t see "Just be Happy"

  4. What a great list!
    This site might help: http://www.driveintheater.com
Maybe you can hit a bunch of driveins on your way to the ballfields or various sites.
When you hit Coors Field I recommend Las Delicias Mexican Food and El Chapultapec for Jazz. The best place for country is a few miles north called the Grizzly Rose. Fun times in Denver.
I hope things are going well for you in Brazil – have a fun and safe visit!

  5. I have been reading your blog. It\’s really amazing lists.. Wishing your family all the best. You are a very rare man to express to show your feeling for your wife & your family. I agreed with Paulene if I am lucky enough to meet a man like you..  I also agreed with Connie\’s kid. One thing that I always remember in my daily life "Be happy!".. It really helps me a lot..
BTW, If you dont mind. I\’d love to have 99 things to do before I die on my blog too.. I really enjoy reading your blog..

  6. Wow! A great blog! I will use more time to read it and recommend it to my friends. Thank you! (35. The Great Wall of China )

  7. I have been reading your blogs for about a week now & just wanted to say what amazing strength not only your wife, but you have.  You were there for her in her time of need & her not complaining..you never forgot about God, even though in our toughest times it seems like we all do.  You all are an amazing family.  I was reading your list and saw #96, catch a fish? I\’m from Oklahoma & we fish ALL the time and was wondering have you all ever been fishing??? It\’s great & something you all as a family could enjoy! Just thought I would comment on that…God Bless you All

  8. This is a cool entry (though I\’m late in commenting) and it inspired me to come up with my own list. Glad your wife is doing well!

  9. Kevin you are so talented and a wonderful grandson, I hope to live long enough to see you write your book. Love you, Grams
