My name is Kevin, you can call me Kevin.
My blog is actually a journal of my wife’s battle with leukemia. I’ve always loved writing and used it as a way to get my feelings and/or frustrations out of my heart and head and onto something else. I started the journal, “Lisy’s Battle with Leukemia” two days after my wife was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
A few weeks later I started a blog after reading about these so-called weblogs in an article in my local newspaper. That’s right, a newspaper, those black and white (and sometimes colored) pieces of paper that get your hands (and then your pants, white work shirt) all black.
I figured an online journal or blog would keep my family and friends informed of Lis’ battle and then recovery and would allow me to stop answering the individual, “How’s she doing?” emails that had littered my inbox.
Since I started in April 2005 Lis has gone from a 3-6 month life sentence to kicking cancer’s butt big time! We (doctors included) thought she would need to have a bone marrow transplant. Nope, turns out she destroyed any sign of the bad cells. She went into remission in November 2005.
We (doctors included) said it was likely we weren’t going to be able to have any more kids (we were blessed with Lukas, who was only five months old when his Mama was diagnosed). Nope, we had our daughter, Lia, in September 2008 and just to totally prove the cancer wrong, our third child, Levi, was born in March 2011.
In November 2010 we celebrated her fifth anniversary of remission with a huge surprise party that caused Lis to tear up. That’s when you know something is special.
Six years later and life is back to “normal”.

You probably don’t remember me. A few years back I came across your blog on MSN, I believe you had been given some sort of blog prize or something, and it was featured along with other blogs, so that’s how I found it. I started reading it and I was so touched and moved by your story that I reached out to you and we chatted on messenger a few times. I know it’s been a long time, but the other night I was watching TV and they were talking about Leukemia, and I remembered you and your wife. I looked up your blog, and I found it here. I am so incredibly glad that Lisy is still doing well, and that you guys are actually expecting another baby! Last time I checked your blog Lia was just a few months old I think.
It’s just really nice to see that everything has worked out, that Lisy continues cancer-free, and that your family continues to grow. Anyways, I hope this note isn’t too weird, but I just wanted to say hello.

I just stumbled upon your blog in a search for info on leukemia. I am very interested in your wife’s story because it is so similar to my own. (Only I am in the beginning of my journey with AML). I am a 35 year old mom of three who was diagnosed with leukemia when my youngest was 10 weeks old- he is now 6 months old. I am currently about to start my 3rd round of chemo. I would love to email back and forth with your wife, as I am need of encouragement and I find her story very inspiring.
